NO! Anything but the SI Curse

This scares me:

Looks like my beloved West Virginia University is on the cover of the latest Sports Illustrated. This is cool, but yet I’m scared. We all know about the Sports Illustrated jinx. It’s so bad, that they’ve done their own article on the jinx.  Maybe it won’t be so bad this year. I mean there are six teams that are on seperate covers this week - all six teams believed to have a legit shot at the national title.

Of course, this isn’t West Virginia’s first apperance on the SI cover. There was that cover after the 1988-89 National Championship apperance in the Fiesta Bowl. Of course, it was a defender watching Notre Dame beat the Mountaineers for the title.

Any jinx? The following year West Virginia was 8-3-1, finishing fifth among Division I-A indepdents, behind Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, and Penn State. West Virginia also lost the Gator Bowl that year.

The jinx, I believe, is more for the fans to have something to think about than anything else. But in all good and fun, I’m thinking about not shaving until West Virginia loses a game this season. I could be looking pretty shaggy by December.
