A Decision Has Been Made
For the past several months, I’ve been struggling with the concept of where do I want to serve. Where is it that God wants me to show his love and grace while proclaiming His work to others. The options have been clear since the start of the candidacy exploration process - West Virginia or North Carolina. Both locations had its advantages and both its disadvantages.
North Carolina is where my friends - my church family - are and where I received the biggest dose of grace and example of Christ’s love in my heart. It’s where I’ve learned what it means to be a disciple of Christ in today’s world, where I’ve exhibited my struggles, and helped others (I hope). I have a strong church family here and the thought of leaving them has been hard at times.
Then there is West Virginia. It is simply where my heart is and where my heart will always be. It’s not just, to me, a love affair with my school, but also a love and passion for people who have been through so much.
So where do I feel God leading me? I feel strongly that I need to be in West Virginia. As great as this area is, I can’t imagine being anywhere else serving the people of God and sharing Christ’s love to all the Mountaineers (and even the Thundering Herd fans).
It’s going to be hard leaving my friends, but I don’t see it as leaving friends behind as moving on with what Christ has called me to do. With communications streams today, there is ample room to communicate and keep in contact with people.
So let the road continue to return to those precious Country Roads from Wheeling to Bluefield, Huntington to Martinsville and all points in between. May God Bless the wonderful people of West Virginia and shine his grace on their lives and us all.

Shannon, I admire your decision. We love you, we support you, but you will be terribly missed by your friends in NC. I’m proud of you for your willingness to follow God’s lead in your life.

Aw shucks, Sarah, but hey don’t write me off just yet. It’s several, several months before I head off to seminary and even then I’ll be back in the area for visits. Ya’ll ain’t getting rid of me too easy.
