Final decision made by Duke?

Posted by Shannon on December 15, 2006

When I started this seminary trek, Duke was my top choice. After awhile it became Asbury, but I still applied to both schools. When I was accepted to Asbury last month, I said that I would wait until I heard from Duke before I made a final decision. I figured it was only fair, even though some of my friends brought up my statement of “whomever accepts me first, I go.”

Well, today I got the letter in the mail from Duke. I was placed on the waitlist. Now, I can agree to be placed on the waitlist and wait until Feb. 1 or I can go ahead and pay the matriculation deposit at Asbury and start making preperations.

I’m going to pay the matriculation deposit and make plans to go to Asbury. I’ll most likely pay the deposit sometime next month. It’s going to be hard because I feel like I’m going to be leaving behind a lot of great things that have happened to me in the past two or three years that I’ve lived in the Raleigh-Durham area, the past year and a half while at my current church.

To allow me to be sentimental for a second, I’m going to miss each and everyone of them. They are not just my friends, but part of my extended family. I feared this day because I feared what it would be like without having that community with me,  but at some point I would have to walk away regardless.

So, I go. Humbly to serve the Lord whereever He so desires for me to be. It will be tough. It will be a challenge, but I have faith in knowing that I am making the right choice with my life.
