Ah, Valentine’s Day is this week. That week where women say that they don’t want their significant others to go out of their way to purchase something, but yet we all know swing short and sleep on the old couch.
Personally, if I didn’t know better I would believe that Hallmark created Valentine’s Day to increase first quarter sales during a slow business period after Christmas. It makes sense. Besides Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, when else do we rush to Hallmark trying to find the perfect card?
This is also the one time I’m thankful for being single or not seriously dating anyone that would merit a rush on that Vermont Teddy Bear, Pajama Gram, or flowers from Merlin Olsen and FTD.
Now in years past, I’ve been hit with the triple wammy of dating - anniversary, followed by Valentine’s Day, followed by birthday all within 11 days. Any combination of 2 out of 3 is bad enough, nailing all three at once should earn a ribbon or something. I have to do a better job of spacing those days out.
Sometimes I think we put too much emphasis on this one day. Of course, I know it makes the ladies feel special and anything to make the ladies happy - I’m all for. But, I’m of the belief that we shouldn’t need a special day on the calendar to tell us to treat our significant other with the love they desire. Shouldn’t we do that on a regular basis? At least, I tend to think so.
And so ends the mushyness of this blog. We will soon return to our regular news and sports programming.
