Edwards’ cushy part-time job
We’ve all had part-time jobs throughout our lives.
The worst, for me, was trying to get people to do surveys at Cary Town Center Mall when I first moved to the Triangle area. The best was working for my local newspaper in West Virginia in the sports department. It was a job that birthed my love for communication. I’ve worked at a race track and a restaurant, all for decent money at the time - at least in my eyes.
But never did I make what former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards made with his part-time gig.
According to financial statements that Edwards, who is running for president on a platform of the problems of the rich, last year made $479,000 part-time. The position? Edwards served as a senior adviser to Fortress Investment Group, a company that while based in Delaware it has a hedge fund in the Cayman Islands so its investors can avoid paying taxes, a legal loophole that Edwards has criticized in the past. The company’s employees, The News and Observer reported, also donated more than $160,000 to Edwards’ presidential campaign in 2004.
It’s very hard for Edwards, the owner of the world’s largest duplex, to decry the problems of the wealthy and claim there is two Americas when his actions speak a different tone. Hopefully the American voter will see this as well in 2008.

To quote Patrick Ewing:
Edwards makes a lot of money…because he spends a lot of money”…on haircuts.

I liked Mike Huckabee’s line the other night about government spending as much as “John Edwards in a beauty shop.”
