Friday afternoon musings

It’s 91 degrees in beautiful Chapel Hill today. The heat index is somewhere near my average golf score. As soon as I walk out of the office, sweat begins to pour out like I’m looking at a no hitter with only one out. Whoops, all apologies to Curt Shilling.

This has been one of the more interesting weeks in the news. You had the immigration bill, yesterday, being dropped from consideration after Senators voted against moving the debate to a vote. Billy Donovan goes back to college and Paris Hilton goes to jail, gets out of jail, and goes back to jail.

You had Republicans punching Democrats … in Alabama of all places. And a California woman faked an abduction to get out of a date. I’ve heard some excuses in women telling me no - not interested, think of me as a friend, prefer men not from West Virginia originally - but never has someone faked an abduction to get out of a date with me. That’s a new one.

And then there was the indictment of Rep. William Jefferson, D-LA., who is being charged for bribery after federal agents found $90,000 stashed in a freezer. (Frankly, I like to keep my cash in a lock box so Al Gore can’t touch it.) Jefferson, who, of course claims he is innocent, said the cash was part of an FBI sting on the Nigerian officials Jefferson is being accused of being in a bribe with.

We’ll see about that.

Enjoy the weekend everyone. Next week is U.S. Open week. I think I’m the only one of my three faithful readers excited about that fact.
