Monday Morning Wake-Up Call

Posted by Shannon on June 11, 2007

Good morning, my loyal blog readers, all four of you. We’ve had an interesting weekend, so we’ll cover the weekend and then look ahead to the week coming up.

First, it’s a long standing rule in sports that once a game goes halfway - especially for outdoor sports - you can call the game on account of inclement weather. Auto racing is no different. Typically the rule is reach the halfway mark and the race is complete.

Enter into the discussion yesterday’s Pocono 500, or maybe we’ll call it the Pocono 265 as Jeff Gordon won his fourth race after two rain delays ended the action. Pocono (which is a beautiful facility and area) does not have lights, so going back 7:30 p.m., would’ve been difficult.

If you’re a fan in attendance of a race that ends early, are you upset? I’ve never been to a game that ended early on account of rain, where I was a fan. I’ve played in a football game, though, that was called in the third quarter because of hail and lightening. We weren’t too upset at that though. We were losing by about three or four touchdowns.

From rain to the rain of bombs as Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat, said the United States should not rule out a military strike on Iran. As tensions continue to mount with Iran, it could be a possibility that the United States may have to consider. That would mean we would be involved in battles in Iraq, Afghanistan, and then Iran.

No, we’re not stretched too thin. Note the sarcasm.

I realized this weekend how far behind the times I am when it comes to technology. I’m in the market for a new computer, since my computer has to be returned to my company upon my resignation in August. Right now, I’m in the market for an Apple, primarily because I’ve heard some bad things about Microsoft Vistas.

So I enter the Apple store and I get some help. I figure computer shopping is that one time you want a salesman to approach you. As I was discussing the student discount, the salesman was telling me how much I would get off, plus what I would get extra - a printer, and an iPod Nano.

I figured this is a pretty good deal, especially on the iPod. But the deal left me with this question - exactly what is an iPod Nano? I understand the premise of the iPod, even if I’m the last American under the age of 30 without one. But what is a Nano?

Finally, blog posts to look forward to this week - yes, I’m putting myself on an agenda for the week - U.S. Open, transitioning, and America’s favorite sport - dating.
