A Bad Country Music Song
I’m a big country music fan.
To some of my friends, country music is what they should play at Guantanomo Bay. However, I grew up on the sounds of George Jones, George Strait, Alabama, and many others. I don’t listen to it as much as I used to - some of the newer stuff sounds too much like pop rock had a bad relationship with country music - but I do enjoy some of the newer bands like Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Sugarland, and others.
I mention all of that to discuss this new song by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, most likely the worst country music song of all time. Probably worse than “Have You Forgotten?,” and “Achy Breaky Heart.”
The song is called “I Need You.” Now this is Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, the modern day Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn or George Jones and Tammy Wynette. When the couple comes together for a song, it typically rocks. Remember the classic, “It’s Your Love.” Great wedding song.
But there is nothing to love about “I Need You.” Good concept. A couple talks about their love for each other and how they need each other, but the insanity of the song is in the lyrics.
I wanna drink that shot of whiskey/I wanna smoke that cigarette/I wanna smell that sweet addiction on my breath/I wanna ride across West Virginia/In the back seat of a Cadillac/You know some cowboys like me go out like that.
That’s just bad. Even mentioning the great home state of West Virginia couldn’t save that collection of lyrics. And the chorus mentioning God, Christ and the Spirit, doesn’t help the song either.

I have to disagree, I love the song. I think that maybe you have never been insanely in love.
