Some Randomness to Start Your Wednesday

Posted by Shannon on July 25, 2007

Drew Carey has been named the new host of “The Price is Right.” This should be interesting and I think could work.

Now, here me out. Carey is a funny and likable fellow, qualities that should help him win over the traditional Price market, stay-at-home moms, college students, and retirees. Plus, he comes into Price with experience as a game show host.

His new show “The Power of 10″ debuts on Aug. 7 and will be a first crack shot at hosting a game show - and in prime time. Now, Carey will not be like Bob Barker, nor should he be. As long as Wayne Brady doesn’t make a special guest appearance to do a musical number before the Showcase Showdown Carey will be fine.

I’m in the market for a new computer, something that I will likely buy either this weekend or next.

However, I’m not quite sure what to purchase. I’ve used an iBook for the past two years and really enjoy the speed and relative ease of an Apple computer. My only real requirement for the computer is that it has to be able to make it through seminary, which you’re looking at approximately three to four years.

Any suggestions?

There are a lot of things on my mind as I head off to seminary. The course load. How am I going to get all my stuff to Kentucky? Will my cousin actually enjoy having me around for three years? Will I be able to withstand the urge of driving to Louisville on Nov. 8?

But one of the more pressing questions I have is this - how do you meet someone on campus in that dating way?

Now, this should’ve been something I learned at West Virginia University. It wasn’t. Outside of my ex-wife, I only dated one other person and that was for a week if that. And I really doubt attempting to impress someone by carrying her up a steep hill is going to work again. That was a painful, but rewarding experience.

Seriously, I’m at a lost on this one and it’s not like I have the world’s greatest dating record to help me out here.

————

Supposedly I’m on the fast track for a heart attack.

According to a new (and inconclusive) study by Boston University, people who drink diet soft drinks are just as apt to get a heart attack or other heart diseases as people who drink the regular soft drinks.

I’m a regular drinker of the Diet Coke, Diet Dr Pepper, and Diet Pepsi. I’m not too worried about this study. If you exercise and eat right you’re fine, in my opinion.

Of course, I guess that would mean I’d have to learn how to cook better. Now that’s a struggle in of itself.

Grilled cheese anyone?

    A couple of random thoughts

Drew Carey will fail in his Price is Right gig. He might be fine, but the institution of that show will not last long after Bob. I give it a year or two before they try something else and then eventually shut it down.

If you go in the PC world check out Lenovo laptops, they are for my money the best around. Apple is great, but it will cost you!!

Do not under any circumstances go into seminary and try to find someone to date. That is set you up for a lot of heartache and frustration during a time when you will be stretched academically, spiritually, and emotionally to the extreme. If you meet someone and it works fine, go with it. But do not go shopping for dates while you are there. It will just make it harder.

Diet Coke isn’t going to kill you before the sugar of regular soda and the diabetes that its brings with it will. Live healthy, find balance, practice moderation and say no to fast food and you will be fine.

I had breakfast with an awesome guy named Bruce today who lived in Morgantown, played soccer for WVU and now goes to our church. You need to meet him.

    Peace-
    G

    1) You’re probably right, but I still think Carey will do well. If the show canceled it will be because the market for game shows is pretty much dead and I don’t know if the show can survive without Bob Barker. But, then again, removing Bob Barker from the show is like a college football coach leaving a dynasty. Penn State will still play football even after Joe Pa retires, how soon that may be.

    2) Lenovo - never heard of it, but will give it a look.

    3) Agreed on the Diet Coke. I do need to learn how to cook.

    4) I agree on the dating thing. Just one of those random “going back to school” things that came into my mind.

    5) A WVU soccer player at our church. SWEET! I used to cover the women’s soccer program when I was at WVU so that’s pretty cool. I can’t wait to meet the guy.

Lenovo used to be the laptop division of IBM, and they are still intertwined but kind of their own company. go to lenovo.com and you can check them out.

If you head to Louisville on November 8th you will be watching the game on TV since the game is in Morgantown this year. This year we play South Florida, Rutgers and Cincinnati away.

  5. Shannon Says:

Yes, I know. Watching the game on TV … in Louisville. Now that could be fun … or destructive.
