Time to Suit Up

Posted by Shannon on August 1, 2007

Don’t be alarmed, but today I’m actually wearing a suit.

Those of you who know me outside of the blog world know that me wearing a suit is a very rare day indeed. I believe the last time I wore a suit was … I’m thinking … still thinking … Christmas? … maybe October.

Now, I’ve worn shirts and ties plenty of times since then, but full coat and tie … not a big fan of really. A big part of it is I have this issue. I live in the south and in case you’ve never noticed about the south it gets pretty hot down here. Add in a nice sports coat to the attire and it’s hello underarm issues.

I’m sure that’s the mental image you wanted bright and early today.

But of course, of all the days to be suited up, I had to pick the day where it was going to be 93 here in the Southern City. No real chance of rain. It’s going to be a scorcher.

Great! Lovely! Someone get the makers of Degree on the line and tell them we’ll have a big challenge for them today. We’ll finally see if Degree can withstand the heat and the … pressure.

It’s not that I have ethical concerns against wearing suits. (I look pretty good today, if I can be an egotistical fool for a second.) It’s just I value comfort over style. I’m sure that will lose me some points in the Are You Still Single and Dating Game?. But, single ladies of the world I ask you - really, would you rather have a man with a great personality that dresses comfortably or a man with no personality but spends $325 on an Alfani Three-Button Black Wool Blazer.

In other words, broke with style or casual style and some cash to spend it on other things in life.

You decide.
