Things I Learned in 100 Degree Heat

Posted by Shannon on August 12, 2007

One thing about a massive heat wave gripping the entire United States, you pick up and learn a few things. Such as water is an essential part of life (who knew) and heat is no match for Tiger Woods. Granted, the boy did bring comfort to us all by sweating like no one’s business during the final round, but he seemed to have been the only player capable of handling the 100-plus degree conditions in Tulsa during the PGA Championship.

Final result: Tiger is now five majors away from catching Jack Nicklaus. On the pace he is setting now, Woods could pass Nicklaus well before he turns 35, which by the way, is in three years. Nicklaus was 46 when he won No. 18, the 1986 Masters.

Ironic Moment of the Weekend: Or maybe not. You decide. As I’m driving home from a dinner and Wal-Mart run, I’m behind a typical Chapel Hill car. It’s in its last mile and is typically covered from head to toe in anti-Bush, pro-Democratic party stickers. This car was no different and even had one that said “Treehugger.”

You could imagine my laughter when I noticed the driver’s hand come out of his car while driving and then precede to flick a cigarette out the car window. I guess cigarettes don’t fit into taking care of the environment.

For the record, many of roads have been littered by my gum over the years.

Yeah, I’ll get to that in a minute: I’m down to five days remaining at my place of employment and a little under two weeks before rolling out of North Carolina and into Kentucky. Now how many boxes are packed? None. Zero. Zilch. Not a one.

Why?

Too tired. Too lazy. Any excuse really will work.

I do have some things organized. Does that count? Cleaning will be the fun part. Any one have any tips on how to drop an Atomic Bomb in the a bathroom.

This Song Won’t Leave Me Alone: You know you would think with heading to seminary that I would have some nice Christian music in my head a lot. Be reflective of what lies ahead and the journey that is in front of me.

Nope.

Nonpoint’s Bullet With A Name On It has been on a continuous cycle in the Mountaineer Brain Hit Music Station. I hadn’t heard this song until a few days ago and now it’s addictive. Don’t ask me why. It’s not that great of song. I just like the guitar rifts on it and the drums beat.

Probably half the reason why I’ve had a headache all night. But, hey it’s better that the typical anxiety-ridden, stress-induced, OCD-ish thoughts I’ve been having lately.

And Finally: 50 Cent is betting his career that he’ll sell more albums than Kanye West. Both are scheduled to release albums on Sept. 11.

This could be a classic open mouth, insert foot moment.
