Today is Tuesday. If this was a “normal” day, I would be sitting in my office working on some article, getting together the Web site, or wishing I was somewhere else. Ah, the joys of unemployment.
I am able today to enjoy some of the finer things in life - NASCAR racing and fantasy football. As I’m running around placing clothes in trash bags, or finding boxes, and doing laundry, the sounds of NASCAR is on in the background. Ah, the joy.
This race was scheduled to be run Sunday. Rain moved the race to Monday, which then moved the race to Tuesday. Fog delayed the start of the race and already there has been an interesting moment. Juan Pablo Montoya spins around early in the race and Kevin Harvick is heard laughing in his in-car radio. These two really don’t like each other. NASCAR needs a good rivalry like the days of Waltrip and Earnhardt or Michael Waltrip and Lake Speed (I threw that in just for a friend of mine.)
Later today, it’s draft preparation. I’ll lock myself into my room and go through my Mel Kiper-like mock draft. In other words, I’ll go through and pick whom I’ll key in on for certain positions and place a depth chart for these positions.
Right now, I’m looking at Chris Henry as my No. 1 selection in my league on Sunday. This guy has a lot of upside and he’ll be fresh come November. (Note the sarcasm.)
I’m in three leagues in all. The first league, in which I’m the commissioner, drafts tomorrow. The second I’m not sure and the third drafts Sunday afternoon after church. Now, to find an internet connection in Wilmore. I may have to send a pigeon to North Carolina with my selections.
Regardless, I’m enjoying this well deserved time off. I feel more at ease and relaxed. The stresses of the past year seem to have faded and I feel as though I’m ready to hit the road for this journey. Maybe it’s the fully leaving the old me behind and staring straight ahead at what this “new” life entails. I can’t wait.
Ring the bell, I’m ready to go.
