Road Trip!
I’ve been waiting for this trip for about two months now. Actually, 11 months - but who is counting? Today, I get to hold my niece for the very first time. I can’t wait.
Sometime in a little bit, I’m going to head to West Virginia to see my niece and my brother. I’ve not had the chance to see them since Katie was born, which has been a hard pill for me to swallow.
You see, the entire time my brother and his wife were preparing for Katie, I was excited and ready to jump into my big truck the second they were in the hospital. I had told family members I didn’t care if I was in the middle of taking a test, I was going to be on the road. Yeah, things happen. Katie was born early and it happened to come at a time when we were preparing to start a new youth ministry - on that very same day, actually. There was no way I could leave.
So, I figured I would head down some weekend. The equation of gas prices, living dime to dime throughout the month of January and February, and responsibilities made it nearly impossible.
That is until this weekend. Of course, it didn’t come without some surprise. A small ice storm that forced the campus to close yesterday made me have second thoughts about hitting the road today. But, the roads are just wet and we are cleared for a departure around 10 a.m., that with some scheduled stops, will put us in Beckley, hopefully around 5 or 5:30 this afternoon.
I can’t wait. I have felt bad that I have yet to see my family. I know it’s not my fault, but it’s been difficult for me to go weekend after weekend and not to see them.
Ah, good thing that will change today. And if all goes well there will be pictures.
