If You Can’t Trust a Clinton Who Can You Trust

Posted by Shannon on April 7, 2008

Turns out, just about everyone else in the free world.

Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the presidency has, to be nice, been under fire for not telling the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. First, there was that little exaggeration about a landing in Bosnia during her time as First Lady where she said they landed under fire. Not really.

Now, there comes another little bit of a call it what you want untruth, partial lie, political maneuver to score points. Turns out that Clinton hasn’t told the truth about the death of a pregnant woman in Ohio. The woman died, that part is not a lie, but Clinton had repeated a story in campaign speeches it had received that the woman did not have health insurance and was asked to give a $100 deposit which she did not have. Turns out, the woman did have insurance and was seeing the hospital’s affiliated providers prior to her death two weeks after delivering her still born baby.

I don’t know about everyone else in the free world, but I prefer my politicians to be at least somewhat truthful when they talk about their issues or things that support their issues. In the journalism world, we were required to fact check everything we ran from multiple sources to insure accuracy. It seems as though Clinton’s campaign has been in such a rush to win that it’s forgetting that to win this election it must prove to be somewhat believable to the American public.

Both Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama have trustworthy ratings, according to Gallop, of over 60 percent, with McCain’s the highest. Clinton lags behind in the 40 percentile range. After 16 years of Clinton and Bush where we’re not sure who we could trust at times, I believe the country needs someone in the White House at least somewhat trustworthy. I mean it would be nice. I don’t think we’re asking for much as a voting public for our politicians to be truthful.

But, I won’t hold my breath that Clinton and the rest will start to be more truthful and honest in their campaigning.
