Spread the Love! It’s a Debt Free Monday.

Posted by Shannon on April 7, 2008

Today, I was able to say something that I have not been able to say since I was married, I believe.

I’m out of bad debt land as it relates to medical bills and back taxes to the IRS.

I wrote checks today that clears my name from the account payable rolls at Central Baptist here in Kentucky and UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. (There is one check that is yet to be written, but will be on Monday when I’m paid.) When the year started, I was looking at back taxes from the IRS, hospital visits, and an outstanding doctor’s visit. I’ve paid off the last I owe to the federal government, the doctor’s visit, and hospital charges and it’s a great thrill.

As far as debt goes now, that leaves me with student debt, two credit cards from purchasing my computer in August, and my truck. Next on the list are the credit cards. My goal is to eliminate one credit card by the end of the year and have only one credit card for emergencies only. I also would like to take a bigger hold on my student debt from WVU. There is a loan that is in deferment right now, while I’m in school, and another that I’m paying on currently. I would like to make a dent on the loan in deferment with any money that I save from not having to purchase food on a daily basis this summer.

So I feel pretty good - and blessed - to see the end of the light of the debt and to have a better picture on how to get back into a stronger financial picture, especially as I enter the ministry. To celebrate … we turn to bad 1980s music.
