Had I Been Home…Things I Would’ve Commented On

Posted by Shannon on April 21, 2008

The joys of being away all weekend is that you miss some of the stories of the weekend. Here are some of the thoughts you might have seen in this space had I been available all weekend.

Here they are:

Danica Patrick did something no other female has done before in IRL. She won a race, winning the race by 5 seconds after race leaders had to come in to pit. This is a historic win, but it should not be downplayed as Yahoo’s Bob Margolis attempts to do. Margolis argues that Patrick’s win is not as impressive because there was only 18 drivers in the field (CART drivers were in Long Beach for their traditional race that was allowed on the schedule following the merger) and she took advantage of late race strategy to win the race.

However, Margolis would likely not doubt a win if Dale Earnhardt, Jr., won his first NASCAR race in quite some time by the same function, nor would he criticize Helio Castroneves had he won and not finished second. Fuel strategy is part of any race and its up to the driver to put themselves in a position to win when it comes down to a fuel strategy race. Every driver knows this. Every team knows this. Patrick and her team placed themselves in position to win and got the job done. That shouldn’t discredit the victory at all.

Margolis needs to learn more about racing before commenting on racing.

There was an earthquake in the midwest Friday. Supposedly you could feel it in Kentucky. I didn’t feel it at the airport Friday morning, but it was all the talk in Chicago both on the flight and in the concourse.

And there was another today.

Gas prices are nearly $3.50 here in Kentucky. A gallon of gas costs more than a Happy Meal! A Happy … Meal!

Pretty soon it’s going to cost more than Big Mac Meal.

Articles like this makes me shake my head.

Again, as I do constantly it seems, I will scream out … She’s 15 years old! Let her be a kid!
