Long Day … One Very Long Day

Posted by Shannon on May 31, 2008

Right now, I’m sitting in the airport in Washington, D.C. I’ve seen enough posters and shirts for Barack Obama and John McCain to do me. Though I am tempted to buy the shirt of being scared of Hillary Clinton.

But that’s besides the point.

Some of the regular readers of the blog will note that I am supposed to be in Bayou La Batre, Alabama today to continue preparation for a summer with YouthWorks. Well, there’s been a change of plans. To save all the details, this morning the decision was made that a flight back to West Virginia with a destination either for Raleigh, N.C., or Wilmore, K.Y., was more appropriate. In other words, I won’t be going forward with YouthWorks this summer.

To say the least, it’s been a long day … a long week actually. I was enjoying getting to know all the different people in Birmingham, enjoyed learning at the Civil Rights Institute on Wednesday, and even hitting a couple three pointers playing knock out. But, the right decision probably was being made to go home.

I hate it because there were a lot of great people that I met that I probably will never see again. People like Daniel, Justin, Scott, Mark, T.J., Katy, Brian, and others.

So, I’m job hunting. I’m either looking at something in Wilmore or in Raleigh, N.C., for the summer. Hopefully I’ll find something soon because the old bank account is running low.

Before closing this posting, I want to thank my friends who have been a great support for me. People like Greg, David, Justin, Scott, Zach, Alex, and others. I even want to thank Ben at YouthWorks for his care and discernment in making what had to be a difficult decision.
